We're Excited You've Chosen Texas State!

Cat Camp Participants

Welcome to the Bobcat family! Our staff is excited about your decision to attend Texas State. There are many reasons to be proud of our University, and we know you won't regret your decision.

Cat Camp is an amazing 3 to 4 day experience for students wanting to learn about Texas State pride, spirit, and traditions. Cat Camp is led by current Bobcats who have a passion for everything Texas State.

Cat Camp is a great way to get started and we hope you will join us this summer. Our goal is to provide you with not only a fun program where you will make new friends, but also with information on what it means to be a Texas State Bobcat and about the traditions we hold dear. We are looking forward to working with you as you begin your life on the hill.

  • Cat Camp will occur over the summer. This year Cat Camp has two different types of sessions: two on-campus sessions and one off-campus session.

The on-campus Cat Camp sessions are held June 21-23 and July 26-28 at the LBJ Student Center. The benefit with our on-campus session is campers can familiarize themselves with campus prior to the start of school.

The off-campus Cat Camp session is held August 15-18 at Camp Young Judaea in Wimberley, TX. Students will check-in at the LBJ Student Center. The benefit with our off-campus session is campers can move into their residence hall early and experience Cat Camp at our off-campus location. The schedule is spread over four days instead of three and allows for a more relaxed pace.

Feel free to contact catcamp@txstate.edu if you have further questions.

  • Cat Camp is an optional spirit and traditions camp open to all students. New Student Orientation (NSO) is required for all incoming students. During NSO, students will learn about campus resources, meet with an academic advisor, and register for classes.

  • Cat Camp hosts a variety of fun activities from small group time to friendly competitions. Students will be placed in a small group of 10-12 students and the groups will be led by two counselors. This is an opportunity for Bobcats to bond with their peers and have a relaxed time learning all they need to know about Texas State.

  • The cost to attend Cat Camp is $175 per student. This includes transportation to and from Texas State to camp (if applicable), lodging, meals, two t-shirts, a bandana, and all the fun activities and memories in between!

  • The on-campus Cat Camp sessions (June 21-23 and July 26-28) are three-day, two-night programs at the LBJ Student Center.

    The off-campus Cat Camp session (August 15-18) is a four-day, three-night program.

Though Cat Camp may end after a few days, we encourage students and counselors to stay actively involved through the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.

  •

If you are attending an on-campus Cat Camp session, camp will be held on-campus at the LBJ Student Center. Students will stay overnight in one of the residence halls.

If you are attending the off-campus Cat Camp session, camp will take place at Camp Young Judaea in Wimberley. Students will stay in gender-specific cabins and must bring linens. We will meet at the LBJ Student Center located on campus and then take buses to Camp Young Judaea.

  • Cat Camp staff are all successful student leaders, many of whom are Cat Camp alumni! They are students who are passionate about Texas State and hope to inspire incoming students. Cat Camp has counselors, CREW, and executive team members. The counselors run small groups and are there to ensure your students have the best experience possible. The CREW members are behind the scenes and make sure the camp runs smoothly. The Executive Team members have been working since Fall 2018 to make sure the camp is the best possible experience!

  • Of course! Transfer students will be placed in a small group with transfer counselors, and the small group discussions will be tailored to the transfer student experience.

  • You can find specific packing lists for each session here.

  • If you are attending the on-campus Cat Camp session, you will have one other roommate of the same gender. Roommates will be assigned according to order of arrival on the morning of check-in.

If you are attending the off-campus session, you will be assigned to a cabin with students of the same gender. Each cabin will have multiple Cat Camp staff members.

If you are a gender-nonconforming student, you can e-mail catcamp@txstate.edu for any comments or questions.

  • Cat Camp is not affiliated with any religious or spiritual beliefs. We welcome students of all backgrounds and beliefs!

  • All admitted Texas State University incoming students are eligible for Cat Camp. If a camper is under 18, a parental waiver form must be filled out and will be sent prior to their camp session.

Any student under the age of 18 is allowed to attend any Cat Camp session!

  • Cat Camp is specifically for students, and there are no activities for parents.

  • Financial assistance is given on a case-by-case basis. Cat Camp offers $100 fee waivers for students in need of financial assistance.

Cat Camp is actively seeking donations in order to help provide students the opportunity to attend Cat Camp.

  • Due to the nature of the program and the cost of supplies and reservation space for each camper, the fee is refundable for a limited amount of time on the refund page.
