Welcome to Cat Camp

Cat Camp is an extended orientation program designed to assist students with their transition into Texas State University community. Our Cat Camp staff encourages students to bond with other incoming students, learn Texas State's history and traditions, and create lifelong memories. Cat Camp provides a foundation for a successful college experience by discussing common transition topics and highlighting campus involvement and opportunities.

  • Cat Camp will occur over the summer. This years Cat Camp dates have not been finalized yet. We are planning on having four different sessions that will be hosted on-campus throughout the summer break.

The on-campus Cat Camp sessions at the LBJ Student Center. The benefit with our on-campus session is campers can familiarize themselves with campus prior to the start of school.

Feel free to contact catcamp@txstate.edu if you have further questions.

  • Cat Camp is an optional spirit and traditions camp open to all students. New Student Orientation (NSO) is required for all incoming students. During NSO, students will learn about campus resources, meet with an academic advisor, and register for classes.

  • Cat Camp hosts a variety of fun activities from small group time to friendly competitions. Students will be placed in a small group of 10-12 students and the groups will be led by two counselors. This is an opportunity for Bobcats to bond with their peers and have a relaxed time learning all they need to know about Texas State.

  • The cost to attend Cat Camp is $175 per student. This includes lodging, meals, two t-shirts, a bandana, and all the fun activities and memories in between!

  • The on-campus Cat Camp sessions are three-day, two-night programs at the LBJ Student Center.

Though Cat Camp may end after a few days, we encourage students and counselors to stay actively involved through the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.

  •

Our on-campus Cat Camp sessions will be held on-campus at the LBJ Student Center. Students will stay overnight in one of the residence halls.

  • Cat Camp staff are all successful student leaders, many of whom are Cat Camp alumni! They are students who are passionate about Texas State and hope to inspire incoming students. Cat Camp has counselors, CREW, and executive team members. The counselors run small groups and are there to ensure your students have the best experience possible. The CREW members are behind the scenes and make sure the camp runs smoothly. The Executive Team members have been working since Fall 2019 to make sure the camp is the best possible experience!

  • Of course! Transfer students will be placed in a small group with transfer counselors, and the small group discussions will be tailored to the transfer student experience.

  • You can find specific packing lists for each session here.

  • With our on-campus Cat Camp session, you will have one other roommate of the same gender. Roommates will be assigned according to order of arrival on the morning of check-in.

If you are a gender-nonconforming student, you can e-mail catcamp@txstate.edu for any comments or questions.

  • Cat Camp is not affiliated with any religious or spiritual beliefs. We welcome students of all backgrounds and beliefs!

  • All admitted Texas State University incoming students are eligible for Cat Camp. If a camper is under 18, a parental waiver form must be filled out and will be sent prior to their camp session.

Any student under the age of 18 is allowed to attend any Cat Camp session!

  • Cat Camp is specifically for students, and there are no activities for parents.

  • Financial assistance is given on a case-by-case basis. Cat Camp offers $100 fee waivers for students in need of financial assistance.

Cat Camp is actively seeking donations in order to help provide students the opportunity to attend Cat Camp.

  • Due to the nature of the program and the cost of supplies and reservation space for each camper, the fee is refundable for a limited amount of time on the refund page.

This page will be updated in entirety when we have camp dates finalized.

If you have concerns about the refund process, please contact catcamp@txstate.edu.
