What is the difference between Cat Camp and New Student Orientation?

Cat Camp is a three-day, two-night spirit and traditions camp that is an extension of the orientation session you signed up for!

New Student Orientation is where you will learn all about the resources Texas State has to offer and register for your courses. Once your orientation session is over around 5:00pm, Cat Camp will begin. Cat Camp will teach you all of the traditions and pride of Texas State, including the fight song, alma mater, and hand signs. Throughout camp you will be assigned a small group led by two counselors who are current involved Bobcats!

Participating in mock traditions such as Riverfest and Spirit Rally will help you gear up for what's to come as a Bobcat! Cat Camp provides a fun and exciting atmosphere for incoming students to feel more comfortable at Texas State and gain lasting friendships.

The Cat Camp traditional session is a four-day, three-night program that is offered off-campus.

How does attending a New Student Orientation-Cat Camp Session work?

There are two New Student Orientation-Cat Camp sessions throughout the summer. Please check to ensure you have signed-up for one of the correct sessions! Students attending one of these sessions will check-in to Cat Camp and have the opportunity to leave their overnight things in their room in Jackson Hall. They will then attend NSO for the majority of the day. Once the students have completed NSO they will then transition straight into Cat Camp until check-out on Sunday.
